Downtown Albany, take two

The big quadruple-header that was supposed to have taken place on Tuesday at the Times Union Center had Wednesday as the only possible makeup date, and since schools were also closed Wednesday, that forced Colonie, Columbia, Shaker, and Shenendehowa to move those games back to school sites. That has to be a great disappointment to the student-athletes. When I interviewed the girls at Shaker, the sense of excitement about the opportunity to play at the area's premier sports venue was palpable.

There is, however, going to be boys high school basketball at the TU Center, and it's going on tonight. These games are nothing to sniff at, either.

The first, at 6 p.m., is a battle between the top two teams in the Big 10, Christian Brothers Academy and Schenectady. The Brothers have looked unbeatable at times, but Troy High proved a few weeks back that they're not quite invincible. While the Patriots are unlikely to catch CBA in the standings, since the Brothers would have to lose more than once, they can certainly make things harder for Troy (who hosts fourth-place Albany tomorrow) to catch them.

At 7:30 p.m., the Albany Academy Cadets, who have beaten all comers in the Capital District (though Schenectady did win one of the two they played with the Cadets) face Bennington's Mount Anthony. The Cadets are making their case for a high seed in Class AA and will be looking to finish their season strong with a win tonight before closing out with a home-and-home with Nassau County's Long Island Lutheran over the next two Saturdays.
